Inheritances and Estates in Greece

In detail…

When a person of Greek origin passes away (in Greece or abroad), Greek inheritance laws will in principle apply and govern the said person’s estate (in Greece and/or worldwide, in certain cases).

The mere location of assets within Greece (even when the deceased person is not Greek) is also triggering procedures and events that must be pursued in Greece, according to Greek law or according to foreign law (in certain cases) which the Greek Court will observe and apply.

We can assist you in locating the inherited assets; probate the estate at the Greek Court; transfer any property to your name; properly legalize you as the heir by “klironomitirio” (Court generated certificate of inheritance) when required and attend to any and all matters related to the estate – without you having to travel to Greece, unless you want to.

We appreciate that the loss of a family member (especially when you are located abroad) is painful enough by itself – and we therefore strive to at least alleviate the (unnecessary) pain of having to deal with the deceased’s legal affairs and estate related due diligence, obligations and burdens in Greece.

More than 50 years of combined legal experience in representing Greeks of the Diaspora in their legal matters in Greece.
